Have you taken the architecture boat tour? Even if you know the history, it’s a great way to get a view of a ton of neat buildings along the river and lakefront.
Wandering around River North, say up Columbus/Dearborn from Wacker to Chicago, then west to Michigan or State and back down south, should hit a ton of neat views.

This. Alternately, for less, just grab a day pass (cheaper) for the Water Taxi and take photos to your heart’s content, and allows for different lighting throughout the day..

I used to live just down the street from UIC and my apartment faced that building.
